The Farne Islands are located just below the Scottish border on the east side of England and are known as one of the best locations in the UK to dive with seals. The visibility here is usually around 8 – 10 metres and you can experience some fantastic interaction with these inquisitive creatures. Just mind your fin tips… they may be nibbled!!!
We will be leaving 2DiVE4 at 12 noon on Sunday 11th October and plan to arrive in Seahouses at our accommodation at around 5pm. On this first evening we plan to have a meal at the sea front hotel. The next morning after breakfast we will make our way to the harbour. This is where we meet our skipper (Andrew) and load our dive boat up. Andrew is a very experienced skipper and will take us out to the best places for seal diving encounters. When diving with the seals it’s best to stay as still as you can. This way the seals feel safer in your presence and will come closer to play!
After a couple of dives with these inquisitive creatures we’re lifted aboard the boat (no climbing up ladders for us!) and make our way back to the harbour where we unload our equipment and take our cylinders for air fills, ready for the next day. We’ll spend the evening in Seahouses again where we go for another meal at a local restaurant and a drink afterwards.
The next morning it’s back to the harbour to load the boat up for another 2 exciting seal dives. After another days diving we rinse our kit on the harbour, before heading home.
N.B. Bring your cameras as you will have face to face encounters with seals! You will also need 2 cylinders for the boat dive as the boat doesn’t return to shore between dives.
